Statement of Intent
Colour is the secret key to my work.
I have always been preoccupied by the language of colours. They have fascinated
me, particularly computer binary colours. Colour and paper and screen
printing started it. I have been mesmerised by computer technologies
with printmaking and how it has evolved. Colour is very personal and emotional
and gives a spiritual energy to
my work. Using colour, line, shape, space, and composition, I am able to create
unity and harmony in my work and to convey meaning and mood. Identifying colour
relationships, different white textured papers or canvas are used to evoke emotional
response.
I use my eyes more than my ears because of my deafness. I observe colour more vigilantly. I find our world is of accelerated movement,
overabundant information and virtual parameters of scales and therefore,
I
break down images as a means of deceiving the viewer by changing the perception
of the real world into confusion.
It is my intention to have people engaged in a confusing process in my virtual reality world. By enlarging images I was able to convert them so that they can lose their own identities. This struck me as magical, to express my work in binary code.
A computer allows me to expand the restrictions of traditional creative techniques. Speed drastically alters our perception, and has pushed modern technology to extremes proclaiming a new aesthetic. Translating digital binary from computer to paper/canvas fills me with a sense of accomplishment and integrity and has proven a wonderful way of experimentation.
